We use am/is/are + [-ing (present continous)] for something happening now.

|
examples: Please be quiet. The baby is sleeping.
Positive: I + am + [-ing (present continuous) (I¡¯m working.)] He/she/it + is + [-ing (present continuous) (He¡¯s/She¡¯s working.)] We/you/they + are + [ -ing (present continuous) (We¡¯re/You¡¯re/They¡¯re working)]
Negative: I + am not + [-ing (present continuous) (I¡¯m not working.)] He/she/it + is not + [-ing (present continuous) (He¡¯s/She¡¯s not working.) We/you/they + are not + [-ing (present continuous) (We¡¯re/You¡¯re/They¡¯re not working)]
examples:
1. I¡¯m meeting with the executives now, call me later. 2. He¡¯s playing golf with his son at the park. 3. Please wait here; she¡¯s taking a bath upstairs. 4. We¡¯re waiting for you here. 5. You¡¯re staying here until your mother comes back. 6. They¡¯re singing at the bar like a bunch of crazy people.
HOWEVER, WE ALSO USE THIS FORM FOR EXPRESSING ACTION THAT WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE FUTURE.
examples:
1 .Andrew is playing tennis tomorrow. 2. Sue is running in the school council next month. 3. I¡¯m not working next week. 4. We are not going to attend the class tomorrow.

Dan: Hi Bob! Are you going to Darren¡¯s party tomorrow? Bob: Yes, I am. Right now, I¡¯m trying to think of what to give him. Dan: You can get him that new book he¡¯s wanted for sometime now. Bob: Yeah, okay. What are you getting him? Dan: I got him a puppy. Bob: Really? Wow! That must¡¯ve cost you a lot of money. Dan: Not really. My neighbor¡¯s dog just gave birth and I asked for one. Bob: Oh I see. How are you getting there? Dan: The others are taking the bus I¡¯m driving there. Bob: Can I get a lift? Dan: Sure! I¡¯ll pick you up at seven. Bob: Yeah alright!
